Any idea on the recent surge of connections the between the RNC and Fred Thompson? He sure has been front and center as their point man recently. Hmmm… interesting…

Jason,
In 2012? I don’t have any idea. For RNC? I do know that he is being talked about in the RNC circles quite a bit recently.

I am not sure if Fred actually ran in 2008.
Fred may feel the need to carry the Federalist banner in 2012, and will he run as a 69 year old?

Fred had his shot and he kinda snoozed thru it. With the prospect of a pretty large GOP defeat and party soul searching, Fred is likely staking out some claim somewhere.
Frankly, he shoulda stayed on Law and Order…he lent that role a sense of gravitas he never was able to carry off screen.

#5, the convention speech scored him a lot of politcal points.

He’s been great defending Palin, McCain, great convention speech, great voice

He’s 66 now, so he may be a bit too old at 70 or so. Maybe not.
But I think Fred can remake himself by staying engaged over the next few years. He was defined by one characteristic: lazy/sleepy. He can just be moving and going, and invigorated the next few years and it won’t be an issue. He won’t enter as an unknown as he largely did in 08.

Fred will be a very very strong candidate should he decide to run in 2012 and him and Jeri want it bad. One thing he will do is get in earlier and have a better organization as well as his enormously successful FredPac. However, I do believe that if Governor Palin runs, that Fred will stand down and defer to her candidacy out of a sense of loyalty and honor.
