Nuclear Tests (from the Associated Press)
Iran has recently tested ways of recovering highly enriched uranium from waste reactor fuel in a covert bid to expand its nuclear program, according to an intelligence assessment made available to The Associated Press. The alleged tests loosely replicate Saddam Hussein’s attempts to build the bomb nearly two decades ago.
Iranian Nuke Scientist: Weekend Quake was a Nuclear Test
A weekend 5.0 Richter earthquake in Iran was actually a nuclear bomb test, says an Iranian nuclear scientist claiming to be working on the project.
Iran building naval bases along Sea of Oman coast
The new bases will extend from Bandar Abbas, a major Iranian seaport on the Strait of Hormuz, to Pasa Bandar near the Pakistan border, Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayari was quoted as saying. “The new mission of the Navy is to establish an impenetrable line of defense at the entrance to the Sea of Oman,” Sayari said, adding the new bases will be constructed rapidly.
“If the enemy goes insane, we will drown them at the bottom of the Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman before they reach the Strait of Hormuz and the entrance to the Persian Gulf,” he vowed.
On Monday, Iran’s Armed Forces also inaugurated a new naval base in the strategic port of Jask, east of the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran. Iran’s Deputy Army Commander Brigadier General Seied Abdolrahim Moussavi said Tuesday that the aircraft carriers of the enemy, “like the elements of the computer games,” are under the gaze of Iran’s Armed Forces.
Iran Has Potential WMD Capabilities, Reports Say
“An Iranian missile force known to be armed with chemical warheads – even less effective unitary warheads — would give Iran a rapid way of deploying a form of weapon of mass destruction that would almost certainly have a major impact on how its neighbors view the risk of supporting U.S. military action and might have a deterrent impact on Israel,” the report states.

Obama victory = US/Israel strike against Iran’s nuclear program?
October 30th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
None of this has been corroborated. How could you post rumors? If it was a nuclear test, Israel would not be quiet, the US would not be quiet and the EU would not be quiet.

So Iran has already tested 2 nukes last week and still has 2 left over mounted on long range missiles?
That’s a pretty big claim.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
The news originated from Israel. Israel? Are you kidding me? Did you read that article? If the Iran has tested a nuke on October 21 and again over the weekend as the source says, the world would know about it. There would not be silence. Remember North Korea? As I said, NONE of this has been corroborated. The source says Iran has nuclear tipped ballistic missiles, yet they are now testing nuclear weapons? Give me a break.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
3 of the 4 links are on the AP Newswire, picked up by the international press, in major publications around the world.
The second link is from an American funded, Israeli neo-con group.

#5, Google the stories.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Kristofer. I HAVE Google the stories and I deem this story fake as it has been uncorroborated by ANYONE.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Since when has Kristofer been interested in accuracy?
October 30th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Fred. I don’t know. I never looked into it. All I’m saying is the story which claims Iran tested a nuclear weapon, is pure rumor. The fact that it originated on a pro-Israeli, neo-con group says a whole bunch. I don’t doubt the rest, I just doubt the leading title: “Iran carried out covert nuclear tests.”
October 30th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
#9,
Are you educated enough on world affairs to produce a coherent comment about this? This is very serious.
How about;
- “Wow, that IAEA presentation at the UN must have gotten Israel’s attention, how did the CIA miss this?”
or
- “Is Israel pushing this story in order to build support for a strike against iran?”
October 30th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
#10, I posted the link from AP, which is being carried by nearly all English language publications in Europe.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
i dont get it. how is this mitt romneys fault?
October 30th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
#13 the buzz is that word on the street is that someone’s brother knows that a Romney surrogate helped Iran with these nuclear tests
October 30th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
actually, Romney has major investments in Iran.

If Obama wins, will Bush take out the nuclear reactors before January?
October 30th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
i come here for the kristofer posts where actions by independent parties mean mitt sucks. palin r00lz! shes just like us. i know the economy is really important and its good to have people that know about it, but she gave a good speech once! and shes pretty.

MITT ROMNEY IS A GOLDEN GOD!
October 30th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
#17, not a God, but he was/is a Bishop and Stake President(spell?).
October 30th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Guys, off the record, I heard a former Romney aid has been present at every 5.0 earthquake in the world during the past 2 weeks.
When will Romney ever learn to stop arming Iran.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
c’mon kristofer. just admit it was an ill advised post last night.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
#20, who are you? What name do you usually go by?
October 30th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Kristofer, the link from the AP does NOT say Iran carried two nuclear tests. READ IT. It says, according to a source from a member nation of the IAEA, Iran plans on conducting nuclear experiments, those experiments are “ways of recovering highly enriched uranium from waste reactor fuel…” which according to the source are not enough to yield 65 pounds of weapons grade uranium to produce a nuclear weapon. But it does say it can lead to it. So again, your lead, that Iran carried out a nuclear weapons tests and that the 5.0 earthquake over the weekend was proof is absolutely rumor and I think I can say, blatantly false.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
#19, maybe you could get Romney to “change” Iran’s mind? He is an expert after-all.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
#22, the first sent. says.
“Iran has recently tested ways of recovering highly enriched uranium from waste reactor fuel in a covert bid to expand its nuclear program, according to an intelligence assessment made available to The Associated Press”
That is a Nuclear weapons test!
October 30th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Kristofer, you are ABSOLUTELY stretching the truth and you know it. That is not a weapons test. A weapons test will result in a fairly large explosion. What this source says Iran is doing or going to do, is testing “ways of recovering highly enriched uranium from waste reactor fuel.” If you cannot read and understand English, then your rights to post here should revoked. You are playing the fear card in hopes it helps John McCain, that’s the only reason why you posted it. Never mind, testing “ways of recovering highly enriched uranium from waste reactor fuel” cannot produce an earthquake… This shows you have complete lack of understanding of the issue.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Why argue, Jeremy.
Is because a dangerous Iran is bad for Obama’s prospects?
Are you implicitly suggesting that Obama is bad for America’s national security and foreign policy?
October 30th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
so… “tested ways of recovering highly enriched uranium from waste reactor fuel” = “tested nuclear weapons”?
As pitiful as journalism in this country is these days, Kristofer makes even the lowliest journalist seem like a noble and wise truth bearer.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
First, regardless of real or not, no major media outlet will focus on this being so close to the election. No way they will let anything foreign policy jump up and draw votes.
Second, This is embarrassing. I am not a rombot and it disgusts me the internal battles this site has over Mitt Romney. Mud slinging and childish. Here is an Iranian post and bob posts an anti-Mitt link (#15). You would think Mitt was satan himself the way some people do all they can to drag him down.
I am an independant that is in the anyone but Obama camp (I do not like McCain but is a much better option than Obamas platform). I recommend a lot more hard work or Tuesday we will be welcoming in the worst presidential candidate in history (in my opinion of course).
October 30th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
#25,
Are you or your computer slow? You just want Obama elected.
I added the AP link for the first, since you do not believe Jewish newspapers (even though the link to the Israel paper said, “from AP”)
I not have added any commentary to the headlines, as they were taken directly from the newspapers and web sites.
1) The first article I linked stated that Iran conducted non-explosive tests.
2) The second story I liked suggested Iran detonated a bomb.
3) The third article I linked reported on iran’s expanding navy and naval bases.
4) The fourth article I linked stated that Iran is WMD capable.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
WiseGuy, I suppose really is no reason to argue. I’m done here.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
#27, are you comparing journalism and blogs?

Arutz Sheva (aka Israel National News) (as far as I can find out, or knew) isn’t an American-funded news organization. They happen to be the biggest right-leaning news group in Israel (where, as in the U.S., most of the media are very liberal).

They copied the link from the Israelinsider, which is funded by;
Benjamin Netanyahu, Melanie Phillips, John Podhoretz, Michael Freund, Michael Oren, Allan Dershowitz, M.J. Rosenberg, Barry Rubin, Uri Avnery, Jeff Jacoby, and Aaron Lerner as well as Christian Zionism pundits like Stan Goodenough and Ryan Jones.

Isn’t that the site that was pushing the Obama fake-birth-certificate rumors?
October 30th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
#35, they push all stories that portray Obama in a negative light.

US election: If Iraqis could vote it would be for McCain
October 30th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Kristofer,
You make more of a fool of yourself everyday. Your contributions to the site have been limited to over-the-top, too long posts touting Palin as the greatest Republican in history, and crap like this.
Your personal attack on the other thread has made me think a little. I really enjoy this site and have been a regular reader and commenter since March 2007. There is nothing you could do that would make me stop reading or commenting here, but as long as you are a front-page poster, I won’t be donating any money to the site (Sorry Kavon). I really hope that Kavon ends the worship Palin experiment and boots you so I can feel good about donating money.
Also, regarding your personal attack from the other thread. Go ahead and defend your accusations. Even the longest commenting Romnot (Metro) states that even though I was a Romney guy in the primaries, my view on him is fair and reasonable, though in his view mistaken.
Since you won’t be able to do that, maybe you should write a front-page post about the universal right to kill anyone you want, like you defended so vigorously a thread the other night. At least that way you would get booted and save us all future headaches.
October 30th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
I’m with ya, Kristofer. You’ve earned your right to be a front-page poster, and I have to admire your very early (and constant) belief that Palin would be picked.
October 30th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Kristofer,
I really have to say that your “tested nuclear weapons” word choice is highly embarrassing and explains a lot about your posts in general. I absolutely second the opinions of #25 and #27.
October 30th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
I also agree wholeheartedly with DSkinner in #38. People can see certain situations through their own lens but that should not restrict their ability to be honest. You fail.
October 30th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Hey man, sorry about landing you in hot water. I thought it was an interesting story; had no idea folks would crucify you over it…
