    wow

  2. Brian H. Says:

I think all 11% of Romney supporters read this blog.

  3. Sean M Says:

Not buying this one, I mean it’s way out of wack with the other 3 that have been taken.

  4. Sean M Says:

From Rasmussen: “Over two-thirds of Republicans describe themselves as conservative in terms of foreign policy, fiscal and social issues”

To me this has Romney written all over it, I mean he is a conservatives conservative.

  5. Joel Says:

sorry but Rasmussen has more credibility than anyone

  6. Sean M Says:

Not to mention it was conducted the day after the election so of course everyone still had Palin on the brain. She needs to work on her credentials if she wants to be taken seriously for 2012.

  7. Thinking Person Says:

To me this has Romney written all over it, I mean he is a conservatives conservative.

Sure, if you believe that opportunistic, recent converts that have never done anything to build the conservative message up prior to 2007 are what ‘a conservative’s conservative’ should be all about.

  8. marK Says:

    HaHa,

It’s going to be a fun three years. :-)

  9. MyBlue Says:

There is now some evidence that the Reverse Bradley affect did happen according to CNN and MSNBC. Some people did not want to hear it from their neighbors in VA, NC and MO that they were voting for Obama and they did.

Obama may have won MO once the results are in that would mean 374-163 a dole type defeat. Another factor was repbulican turn out was lower this year.

So much for the Bradley affect. I don’t think we will be hearing that on here in the future.

Say hello to MyRed for me.

  10. DSkinner Says:

This is interesting. I was wondering why it took so long for this to get a post. I would have though Kris would have been all over this.

Obviously someone is really wrong about the support for Palin. The other three polls combined show about the same level of support as Palin has in this one. I think only time will tell what is the truth.

Either way, I think it is pretty obvious that Palin is at her peak of before they actually start running. I don’t see what she could do to get her level of support higher than right now. By the time the campaign starts in 2010, I think Romney will have a narrow lead over Huckabee and Palin but all three will be within a relatively narrow 10 point window.

  11. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

Isn’t ‘MyBlue’ a pregnancy test? Change you name dude. ;)

  12. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

Although we will debate polls, they really will not matter until late 2011.

  13. Jason Bonham Says:

That would be true of Generals, in the Primaries he was mediocre on the list of poll reliability if I remember correctly, and a lot of times was an outlier in the conservative direction.

That said… We can’t ignore this poll, and if we are going to take the polls seriously, this should be included. Although to biased mind like mine, it screams heavy outlier.

  14. Big S Says:

The problem is Palin’s not going to last past her term as governor. She might escape to the Senate, where she’ll amass an unelectable voting record, but her future prospects for the presidency are shrinking very quickly. Her approval rating is dropping, and it’ll only get worse now that she’s lost. Also, she’s made too many political enemies in Alaska. I’m sorry ladies and gentlemen, but it’s over.

  15. Jason Bonham Says:

13 was in response to #5

  16. marK Says:

    Never say never, Big S.

  17. MWS Says:

In the summer of ‘07, Huckabee was polling about 2%. While I’m pleased to see Romney mired at the same level he was stuck at for all of ‘07- according to the most accurate pollster in the business- meaningless is an understatement for polls this far out.

  18. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#14, are you stoned? Palin is going to win in a landslipe. I am hearing that the Democrats may not even field a candidate.

  19. wateredseeds Says:

Honestly, the GOP nomination is Bobby Jindal’s to lose. He’s a proven reformer. He has hardcore conservative credentials that resonate with ALL WINGS of the party. He is also the smartest person being considered at the moment. I supported Huckabee this time, but I really believe that Bobby Jindal is the next Ronald Reagan. Just ripe for the picking, a true conservative that needs no conversion to conservative principles. He doesn’t run off of a populous message like Huckabee either. I think he will be the uniter of the party. No one is going to claim he’s dumb.

  20. Thinking Person Says:

That would be true of Generals, in the Primaries he was mediocre on the list of poll reliability if I remember correctly, and a lot of times was an outlier in the conservative direction.

Yup. It’s pretty fair to say that Romney is the real frontrunner right now, and the most likely nominee.

Nah. She’s still got more than enough support to win the Senate seat, and if she’s savvy, she’ll be careful about her voting record. It’s probably true that her only chance to win is in 2012, so she’ll probably head to the Senate, brush up on foreign affairs, and run against Obama. Then, she’ll stay in the Senate until she’s old and no longer GMILFy.

  21. marK Says:

LOL #18. You get 12 points for that post. :-D

  22. nowandlater Says:

Finally a realistic poll. Look for the Romney bashing or the paranoia about Romney surrogates to fade quickly. Thank goodness! Don’t feed the derangement!

  23. Thinking Person Says:

Honestly, the GOP nomination is Bobby Jindal’s to lose. He’s a proven reformer. He has hardcore conservative credentials that resonate with ALL WINGS of the party. It’s not his to lose because he won’t want it unless Obama looks highly beatable. No one prefers to run against an incumbent, and even if the GOP does manage to beat Obama in 2012, Jindal will only be 43. He’s got literally 2 1/2 decades to make a run.

  24. Big S Says:

    #18

There’s talk of prosecutions for some of her aides based on the troopergate scandal, and the drop in the price of oil, if prolonged by bad economic news, could lead to budget deficits in the state. Coupled with a losing race that rubbed a lot of the shine off of the new governor, her approval rating will probably be somewhere near 50% within a year. There will be a better than even chance a well-known Democrat like Begich could knock her off by that point. Her only real career extending option is to appoint herself to the Senate.

  25. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#23, great point. Jindal and Palin might not even run if Obama looks unbeatable.

  26. JA Pruce Says:

2012 IS SARAH’S IF SHE WANTS IT!

  27. marK Says:

    #23,

You are so right. 2012 will be Romney’s last realistic chance. He has to run against Obama. Palin and Jindal have a reasonable incentive to sit it out. They are both young enough to “wait for the opportune moment”.

  28. Jason Bonham Says:

    23.

Unless you are an incumbent, or you have another situation like 2008, you kind of don’t have an option with the presidency.

  29. Craig Says:

    Ha Ha Ha Ha,
The same crowd that just got blasted, Dole like, in the polls wants a re do. What are these folks interested in…….succeeding the Whigs on history’s ash bin? Don’t we learn anything about the voters ?
    # 18 By the way, what IS a landslide in Alaska 50,000 votes ? There are a LOT more votes in my county.

  30. Thinking Person Says:

Unless you are an incumbent, or you have another situation like 2008, you kind of don’t have an option with the presidency.

    What do you mean?

  31. nowandlater Says:

2012 will be a sacrificial lamb unless we are in the middle of a Great Depression II which I pray does not happen because the consequence to millions will be horrendous.

  32. CaliforniansRNutz Says:

Big S’ irrational Palin-hate is already forcing him to tell lies. Palin destroyed Obama in Alaska winning 61% of the vote and her GOP coattails are deep enough to get Don Young and Ted Stevens re-elected. Some unpopularity there.

  33. JA Pruce Says:

Republicans are now hungry to make history and break boundaries and a Sarah candidacy would be very powerful – don’t underestimate that emotion, especially among primary voters.

  34. Thinking Person Says:

Big S’ hatred of Palin really is bordering on the seeing-what-he-wants-to-see-rather-than-what’s-there. I’m not a fan of Palin — as you know, I have the scars to prove it! — but I like to think that I keep it in perspective. I’ve defended her on multiple occasions. Saying that she won’t have a career past 2012 is plainly absurd.

  35. Big S Says:

    #32

Turnout in Alaska was depressed relative to last time around. Some motivator, that Palin.

  36. AC1 Says:

    http://www.startribune.com/politics/34116044.html?elr=KArksLckD8EQDUoaEyqyP4O:DW3ckUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUX

Well look at this. There are 25,000 undervotes in the MN Senate race. Most of them are from heavily Dem areas. As I told Kavon a day or 2 ago, there is now way Coleman wins this. Say Senator Franken.

  37. MWS Says:

You know what’s funny? Last fall and early winter, about 99.6% of the posters on this site where predicting either Romney, Huckabee, Thompson, or Guiliani would win. Of course, a scant 3 months later, McCain had it sewn up. Perhaps we should be more careful about sweeping statements and predictions 3 1/2 years before the first votes are cast?

  38. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#24, you have no idea what you are talking about. She is the most popular politician in the State and Begich could not even beat Stevens, who is convicted.

Seriously, stop typing, you look like an ass.

  39. Thinking Person Says:

Republicans are now hungry to make history and break boundaries and a Sarah candidacy would be very powerful – don’t underestimate that emotion, especially among primary voters.

    Speaking of seeing-what-he-wants-to-see…

JA Pruce, you finally have a real bunk poll and you don’t call it out? Goodness.

  40. Big S Says:

    #34

Just wait for the budget projections.

  41. Jason Bonham Says:

    30.

Purely that not wanting to run against an incumbent is a wish not a reality for someone who isnt a. the current president or b. some odd twist of fate chosen as VP and wins.

  42. Thinking Person Says:

You know what’s funny? Last fall and early winter, about 99.6% of the posters on this site where predicting either Romney, Huckabee, Thompson, or Guiliani would win. Of course, a scant 3 months later, McCain had it sewn up. Perhaps we should be more careful about sweeping statements and predictions 3 1/2 years before the first votes are cast?

But McCain was an early frontrunner, not an upstart.

  43. Big S Says:

    #38

I have been right about a lot more than you have this election. Don’t call me an ass.

  44. Sean M Says:

“2012 IS SARAH’S IF SHE WANTS IT!”

No it’s not sorry…………If she does want it she better do alot of homework and study up on many issues.

  45. Thinking Person Says:

Purely that not wanting to run against an incumbent is a wish not a reality for someone who isnt a. the current president or b. some odd twist of fate chosen as VP and wins.

I think that Jindal will have enough time to see his wish come true.

The question is just whether his Moment will pass by waiting.

  46. AC1 Says:

Why are we arguing about 2012? If the Dems get 60 Senate seats now the playing field will be so tilted against us that it won’t matter who we nominate. Focus people!

  47. MWS Says:

    Alex,

“But McCain was an early frontrunner, not an upstart.”

So? My point is that the predictive powers of all of us armchair kingmakers is somewhat……. lacking.

  48. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#43, sorry, but you really are sounding like one. McCain/Palin won 2/3 of every vote in Alaska, and if you knew anything about Alaska politics, you would know that they will not finish counting absentee ballots until the ned of next week, which should take the turnout from 45.2% to at least 60%.

  49. marK Says:

    #36,

All is not lost. I suspect many Democrats in MN voted happily for Obama, but rebeled at voting for Franken, and couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Coleman.

BTW, as a Washington State resident who had to go through the shinanigans of the 2004 Governor’s race, I say, “Welcome to the club.”

  50. MWS Says:

    Big S,

    #38

That’s not because you’re a genius or clairvoyant, but because you were rooting for the guy who happened to win.

  51. JA Pruce Says:

I think that Gov. Palin needs to establish a shadow campaign immediately and start organizing her fundraising apparatus and start planning a strategy for 2012. I think that she is very shrewd and will likely send out a shot across the bow sometime around 2009 to beg off potential challengers and encourage them to stand down. The other potential candidates of 2012 (and there are many strong ones) now have to face the reality that in the eyes of the majority of primary voters, it’s Sarah’s turn and they just need to adjust to that fact.

  52. the arbiter Says:

i dont doubt that palin is popular, i just dont think she should be.

  53. Shawnie Says:

This was a very interesting part of the same Rasmussen survey:

“These findings echo a survey earlier this week which found that Republicans were happier with their vice presidential candidate than with their presidential nominee. Seventy-one percent (71%) said McCain made the right choice by picking Palin as his running mate, while only 65% said the party picked the right nominee for president.”

  54. Shawnie Says:

What would really be helpful is a survey of Independents. Both for future Republican Party nominee and who they approved of, either McCain or Palin this year.

  55. Thinking Person Says:

So? My point is that the predictive powers of all of us armchair kingmakers is somewhat……. lacking.

I had a fairly good track record until my abysmal prediction of the Electoral College (286 for Obama — hah! I was quite off). I did count McCain out in the summer like everyone else did, though. I predicted the GOP Iowa caucus almost perfectly, said back in July 2007 that Fred Thompson would fizzle out, and said in Summer 2007 that Ron Paul would reach the high single-digits in the first two contests (rLOVEution!).

I’ll always remember Matt C’s infamous prediction that Mitt would win Iowa with 41% of the vote. :)

  56. DSkinner Says:

    Alex,

Is there anyway you vote for Romney in a 2012 primary (ie – he emphasizes economic and foreign policy issues more, which he will do since he already figured out he can’t out social conservative Huckabee, or Palin)? What about the 2012 general Eeection?

Is there anyway you vote for Palin in a 2012 general election?

I know you gave a list of who you could support, but assuming Rudy doesn’t run, who is your number one right now? Sanford? Jindal?

  57. marK Says:

Shawnie.#35 “These findings echo a survey earlier this week which found that Republicans were happier with their vice presidential candidate than with their presidential nominee. Seventy-one percent (71%) said McCain made the right choice by picking Palin as his running mate, while only 65% said the party picked the right nominee for president.”

That could easily explain why McCain is doing nothing to combat the silly rumors flying around about Palin.

  58. Illinoisguy Says:

For what it is worth, the insiders see it a little differently according to nationalreview.com.

“Former Massachusetts Gov. Romney seems to cut the broadest swath and arguably is the best positioned to be the next GOP nominee, should McCain not win in November. Convention Daily’s survey of 78 Republican Insiders found that 55 percent expect Romney to be the 2012 nominee if McCain loses. Jeb Bush was second, with a mere 8 percent. ”

But, who cares at this stage of the game? We just got out butt whupped. I would love to have had the intelligent and pragmatic Romney arguing our case the last few months….with perhaps a Fred Thompson VP at his side.

  59. Sean M Says:

JA sorry but you’re wrong. As time puts distance between this election people will forget about Palin and remember “oh yeah she was on the losing ticket.” If the Republican primary debates were held today,Romney would clobber her over the issues. She only excites one wing of the party(that’s not going to cut it).

  60. marK Says:

    make that Shawnie.#54

  61. Big S Says:

That’s not because you’re a genius or clairvoyant, but because you were rooting for the guy who happened to win.

I wasn’t rooting for Obama – I was rooting against the tendency of Sarah Palin teen fan club members like Kristofer to ignore polls and trends. Somehow, they seem to think such attitudes will boost their candidates. I hope people realize that Palin’s career has gone of the rails sooner rather than later so they don’t get caught with a total trainwreck on their hands when it comes time to find a candidate in a couple of years. Look for other, less-compromised candidates. It’s the best way forward for the GOP.

  62. Thinking Person Says:

Is there anyway you vote for Romney in a 2012 primary (ie – he emphasizes economic and foreign policy issues more, which he will do since he already figured out he can’t out social conservative Huckabee, or Palin)? What about the 2012 general Eeection?

I will never vote for Romney because I don’t trust him.

Is there anyway you vote for Palin in a 2012 general election?

Absolutely. If she proves herself to have become knowledgeable on foreign policy issues, cuts the populist crap, and doesn’t give us anymore Katie Couric interviews, I could get behind her.

I know you gave a list of who you could support, but assuming Rudy doesn’t run, who is your number one right now? Sanford? Jindal?

Probably Gingrich, though I do like both Sanford and Jindal. Jeb Bush isn’t really running, but I actually really like him. I cannot, at the moment, support Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty, or Palin. I’d only support any of them in a general election under emergency circumstances (this ‘forced national service’ thing looks disturbing, for instance).

  63. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

“ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called her critics cowards and jerks Friday for deriding her anonymously and insisted she never asked for the expensive wardrobe purchased for her use on the presidential campaign.

“I never asked for anything more than a Diet Dr. Pepper once in a while,” Palin said as she returned to the governor’s office from her two-month odyssey as the GOP vice presidential nominee. She said the Republican National Committee paid for the tens of thousands of dollars in designer clothes and accessories.

“Those are the RNC’s clothes. They’re not my clothes. I never forced anybody to buy anything,” she said.”

  64. JA Pruce Says:

One reason that Sarah needs to get organized is to have her people influence the primary rules for 2012. She will want to set up the most advantageous rules including forbidding independents and democrats to vote in the primaries and choose the Party’s nominee. The Democrats are scared to death of Sarah and she will need to watch out for their traps.

  65. TarheelRepublican Says:

I have to agree with MWS. These polls don’t mean much especially in light of McCain’s comeback in the primaries this year.

  66. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

Big S, what is wrong with the Palin teen fan club? Free membership, and we refuse all Big S-trolls.

  67. Thinking Person Says:

I wasn’t rooting for Obama – I was rooting against the tendency of Sarah Palin teen fan club members like Kristofer to ignore polls and trends.

They’re a teen fan club in the sense that they think that she’s s0o0o0o0o cute and totally the best act on the charts, not because she’s an accomplished songstress. Who cares about what the critics think, anyway? They only want to hobnob with the music elite.

  68. Thinking Person Says:

Big S, what is wrong with the Palin teen fan club? Free membership, and we refuse all Big S-trolls.

Because at the end of the day Mozart is a superior artist to Miley Cyrus, even though the latter sells more records nowadays.

  69. the arbiter Says:

palin 2012 will be similar to the john edwards campaign. being the losing VP probably won’t hurt too much. but being the empty suit with the nice hair will.

  70. JoeyD Says:

This one’s about right. It’s Palin’s nomination to turn down (not lose). Bobby Jindal will be a brilliant Vice President. And NO, HELL NO, we won’t allow any moderates like McCain or Guliani and say anything, do anything candidates like Romney anywhere near the nomination.

But back to the primary, her base within the party will be too great to overcome no matter how much money Romney tries to spend on it. Palin will poll 60-65% among Republican women (that alone will get her to 2nd place). She will at worst split Evangelicals with Huckabee (who I don’t see in the campaign if she’s there). She will also score well “fresh face” voters (whom she will split with Jindal [also doubtful to show if Palin's there]). Last name recognition is worth 8-10%. She has had $300 million worth of face time in the last 8 weeks. She will get several million more “15 minutes of fame” before she fades into the Alaskan sunrise next spring.

She also gets to spend the next 2 years building up leadership credentials and state governors. Plus she gets a high profile governor’s race or a senate seat, perhaps as soon as this January after Stevens is sentenced (she gets to make the appointment). Romney has the same problem John Edwards had. It’s difficult to keep your name in the news while you’re off the grid.

Last, she’s tough as nails. All the previous contenders have shown themselves to be soft. So soft in fact, that they got beat by John McCain in 2008.

  71. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

    68-Alex,

Mozart is dead, Cyrus is still young. Even the Beattles had to suffer in Germany for years before they moved to the top of the charts.

  72. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#69, PLEASE DO NOT ATTACK ROMNEY.

“empty suit with the nice hair”

  73. Jason Bonham Says:

Mozart is a better musician than the beetles.

  74. Thinking Person Says:

    Bonham: the beetles.

    Lorelli: the Beattles

Jesus, can no one spell the name of the goddamn band correctly? LOL.

  75. the arbiter Says:

please kristopher. romney has done more w/ his life than palin ever will, and you know this. you shilled for palin before she got the nom, so whatever happens to her, reflects on you. you can’t possibly be objective on her, and you never have.

  76. Thinking Person Says:

This one’s about right. It’s Palin’s nomination to turn down (not lose). Bobby Jindal will be a brilliant Vice President. And NO, HELL NO, we won’t allow any moderates like McCain or Guliani and say anything, do anything candidates like Romney anywhere near the nomination.

I really want to know what Giuliani is moderate on besides guns. His pro-choice views are almost irrelevant, given his support for good judges. See his Federalist Society speech?

  77. Jason Bonham Says:

    74, who cares they stunk.

  78. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#75, sure, nor do I want to be objective, what is wrong with that?

You are a sexist pig. That is not objective.

  79. Thinking Person Says:

    74, who cares they stunk.

    I agree; they’re quite overrated.

  80. Illinoisguy Says:

Ok, guys and gals, it seems we’re in the mood, would one of you front pagers please put up a 2012 first choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice for 2012 Republican candidate. Run it until midnight tomorrow night and I’ll tally the results if you would like. It would be good to know where we as a site stand. Thanks.

  81. Thinking Person Says:

You are a sexist pig. That is not objective.

  83. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

Half these politicians we are talking about are not even going to run for office in 4 years, so we will see.

  84. Jason Bonham Says:

    78.

Yes, and Palin spent 150000 on suite, and still idn’t now Africa was country.

    Semi true, but unfair.

    Empty suite rhetoric abounds.

  85. JA Pruce Says:

I have been going back and forth on this whole question about whether or not Sarah should appoint herself to Steven’s seat in the Senate. The more I think about it, the more I am in favor. Here is my thinking: Sarah joins the Senate and replaces Mitch McConnell as the Minority Leader, where she would be a strong leader of the opposition and check on the Obama administration. In this roll she will gain national prominence and create an attractive alternate vision of America that can propel her into the Presidency in 2012.

  86. Jason Bonham Says:

We should actually do a straw poll with a free polling software.

  87. Joel Says:

We will be able to tell who or best nominee is by who Big S denigrates the most. My guess is it will be Jindal.

  88. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

    #81,

    you are sexist as well.

  89. Thinking Person Says:

Yes, and Palin spent 150000 on suite, and still idn’t now Africa was country.

    You really don’t believe that?

I have been going back and forth on this whole question about whether or not Sarah should appoint herself to Steven’s seat in the Senate. The more I think about it, the more I am in favor.

It’s not an appointment. The law calls for special elections.

  90. Thinking Person Says:

    you are sexist as well.

Duh. I opposed Palin. Of course I’m sexist.

  91. Jason Bonham Says:

  98. Illinoisguy Says:

I think we should do a poll for just our site. We did them for our nominee, and we did them for the VP several times. Let’s do one for 2012 just so we’ll know where we stand in November, 2008.

Shut up, loser. Palin is a deity, a goddess, the most articulate, stunning, accomplished person ever.

Kristofer, tell them what you told me: that Palin turned Alaska around just like Rudy turned NYC around.

There’s a wide gulf between “stunk” and “overrated”.

    IMO – for mid-late ’60’s rock:

Velvet Underground > Stones > Beatles

  108. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

Anyone who disparages Gordon Lightfoot is risking a perma-ban.

  109. JoeyD Says:

    Besides guns and abortion…

That’s like saying “other than being a liberal, what makes you not a conservative?”

There are 4 tenets to conservatism: guns, taxes, military and abortion. If you are lacking 2 of the 4, you’re a moderate (especially if one of the two you have is taxes, everybody’s against taxes even Pres-Elect Obama is against taxes)

I agree with the poster than Palin needs a shadow now to discourage challengers. I also think she will fire the first shot as soon as she makes the decision to run (which isn’t necessarily a certainty). I think this time she was “willing”, not necessarily “wanting”.

Her family situation may make 2016 a better option for her, she could have a successful Governorship and a full senate term of experience by then. She would still only be 52, which is considered about ripe for a White House run.

An idealistic campaign manager eyeing 2012 probably makes her 2010 race, a national campaign in terms of fundraising and builds a network aiming for $2 billion in 2012. A $25 million war chest on Jan 1, 2011 probably makes most contenders, pretenders in a hurry.

  110. Thinking Person Says:

Welcome to the conversation, Mr. Nikrad. Who are you supporting right now? Newt?

  111. Illinoisguy Says:

Lots of lawsuits going up against the church because they are being given credit by both sides for passing the Consitutional amendment in California against gay marriage. Only thing is, the church gave no money out of its coffers; but it was all personal donations. They are trying to take our tax exempt status away for fighting for it, but they don’t have a leg to stand on.

  112. Doug Forrester Says:

Gordon Lightfoot is good. He’s kind of a poor man’s Johnny Horton.

  113. Thinking Person Says:

There are 4 tenets to conservatism: guns, taxes, military and abortion. If you are lacking 2 of the 4, you’re a moderate

That is the weirdest, weirdest definition of conservatism that I have ever seen.

Kavon is and will remain neutral in the race42012.

Oops, that was supposed to be for a friend of mine, not on here.

  116. Thinking Person Says:

Kavon is and will remain neutral in the race42012.

You’d support any of our potential nominees, then?

Party-building is more important right now, I suppose. That’s what I’m excited about, actually. I’m actually far more excited about the party than I was a week ago. This is primetime for ideas people that want to modernize the party.

  117. Doug Forrester Says:

WHAM! > Air Supply > Men At Work > Miley Cyrus

  118. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

    the arbiter,

You are a sexist for attacking Palin by commenting on her looks, just as some are bigots on this site for attacking Romney because he is a member of the LDS church.

As for donating $, start a petition to fire me, I’ll be the first to sign. I am spending more time talking to Kavon (not saying Kavon isn’t cute) than I am with single women, so this might be my chance to even things out. Please help. ;)

To put bach at the end is absolutely pretty ignorant. He has been consistantly ranked as one of the top 10 minds our world has had in like 5 or 10 academic polls.

He’s easily with out any doubt the quintessential genius.

  121. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

You’d support any of our potential nominees, then?

I would gladly support any of the candidates listed on the left-hand sidebar.

  122. JoeyD Says:

Think about Reagan’s three legged stool.

    1. The less government/anti government crowd. Their “thing” is lower taxes and limited regulation.

    2. The hawks. Their “thing” is a superior military and a fondness of the 2nd Amendment.

    3. The values voter. Their “thing” is abortion and gays.

Summed up: guns, taxes, military, abortion.

Nope. Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears are superior.

Why do so-cons get two representations in your silly smorgasboard while economics is summed up by “taxes”? Why is “military” one big issue?

    Geez, what a gross oversimplification.

  125. Jason Bonham Says:

    120. The term ignorant was meant sarcastically, sorry.

  126. Matthew E. Miller Says:

    Big S,

The first thing you and I agree on. The Who owns all. Of course, my favorite band from that era is The Kinks. “The Village Green Preservation Society” is roughly the most enjoyable CD I’ve ever heard.

  127. Thinking Person Says:

    120. The term ignorant was meant sarcastically, sorry.

You, sir, are the ignorant one to actually assert that Bach is superior to Miley.

  128. Jason Bonham Says:

  129. Thinking Person Says:

Who is Miley? ha. Serious though.

    Miley Cyrus? Hannah Montana? Hahaha.

  130. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

    129 Alex,

Did you not go to this concert?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWOzUzJd6wM

  131. JoeyD Says:

    Gross oversimplification?

Yes, but I’m not seeking my doctorate in political science and I haven’t had a need to write an in depth position paper, nor a campaign speech since the mid90s. Further, the attention span of the average voter is the 8 sec. soundbite. That list sums up conservative thought in the 8 sec. window.

In the business world, where I live, it’s get to the bottom line as quickly and accurately as possible. The “why” is not nearly as important as the “what”.

  132. Thinking Person Says:

Did you not go to this concert?

    It’s amazing.

Yes, but I’m not seeking my doctorate in political science

I don’t think that you need a doctorate in Political Science in order to realize that it’s a gross oversimplification to say that conservatism is only about guns, abortion, taxes, and ‘the military.’

  133. Matthew E. Miller Says:

But, I dunno about the Beatles being overrated. It seems like it’s just very hip these days to say the Beatles are overrated, so I’m pretty hesitant to go along. I think there “masterpieces” like Sgt. Peppers and Revolver are a little overrated, but the meddley at the end of Abbey Road? Well, I’m hardpressed to think of a better way to spend 16 minutes.

  134. Doug Forrester Says:

As a young guy (Alex’s age) I was a big fan of Pink Floyd. Now I listen to them now and wonder what I was thinking.

  135. Big S Says:

Of course, my favorite band from that era is The Kinks. “The Village Green Preservation Society” is roughly the most enjoyable CD I’ve ever heard.

    That’s a good one too.

  136. TonyK Says:

sorry I just wake up from sleep

    SARAH PALIN for 2012

    thanks

  137. Sean M Says:

Where’s the 2012 straw poll? I saw it pop up but nothing there.

  138. JoeyD Says:

    Understand this much….

IT WAS INTENDED TO BE VERY SIMPLE!!!

I CHOSE not to go into detail. Not choosing to fill in the puzzle and being simple does render the action to be untrue.

You need to learn Gingrich’s lesson. Republicans lose arguments in details. They don’t lose them because the details are wrong. They lose them because they lose the viewer’s attention.

  139. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

I’ll put it up. Only one rule for Huckabee supporters; Max 5 user names when you sign on! ;)

  140. Jason Bonham Says:

I think when I was Alex’s age I listened to Bauhaus and Love and Rockets.

    137.

I didn’t work. JavaScript problem with Word Press. Kavon will need to install a widget or something.

time to go…I am actually going to perform Beethoen in like 25 minutes.

  141. Jason Bonham Says:

    139. If you do it, just use the peoplpe on the list on the left, and make sure you DONT put Paul. We don’t want to be overran.

  142. Doug Forrester Says:

When we focus on great bands we really miss a lot of good music produced by mediocre bands (see Soul Coughing-Circles and Level 42-Something About you, for good examples).

  143. Au standard Says:

Ras’ weightings are obviously B.S….totally overweighting Palin supporters…only thing you can trust is TIPP and Battleground now….Ras is obviously in the tank for Palin…bastards…looking at the other polls (enter candidate name) is clearly up, plus palin always underperforms these polls…anyway…wait…what day is this?

  144. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#140, you have/had great taste in music!

    #141, I left it open.

  145. Richard L Says:

Isn’t Kristopher with a K a girls way of spelling it. Let’s not get into name calling or playing the dozens or I will school you.

  146. Richard L Says:

I like what MyBlue has to say

  147. Richard L Says:

At least I have a fellow person on here, Don’t pay any attnetion to him MyBlue. Kristopher was still saying McCain would win without a doubt on the morning of the election

  148. Heath Says:

    I’m chacking myself with laughter!

Or course Palin is in front with the name factor.

I mean Clinton was beatin Obama by about as much in 2007, let alone 2004!

Palin has no chance but believe what you want.

  149. Heath Says:

If she runs the Palin v Romney battles on this site are going to be 100 times bigger than the Rudy v Romney battles.

    And even funner!

  150. Heath Says:

Kris said without a shadow of a doubt that “McCain can’t lose Indiana” – with only about 20% of precints to report.

That hurt me bad as I had $600 on him.

He also said “there is no chance that Obama gets to 330 EC’s”. Really?

Not as bad as Gamecock and JAPruce (although JA is not for real guys), but still.

So read what he says but just don’t give any credence to his predictions. As a Romney fan I hope he gives him no chance!

  151. MarkG Says:

    Hammers! Talk about whacked-out priorities!

    Wuhoohuhoohuhoohuhooooohuhuhuhooohuhoooo.

  152. MarkG Says:

Of course, for the more buttoned-down types, there’s always the Great American Bachist. Be patient, 86min ain’t peanuts…

What kind of country has this become since the Olection!?

  153. MarkG Says:

No love for the city folks

  154. MarkG Says:

    Newfangled gangsta rap

  155. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

    Doug #142,

El Oso is one of my favorite albums of all time.

  156. Shane Says:

Best band of the 60s? Easy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hg7jzi9JAkw

  157. Doug Forrester Says:

#155, neat. Soul Coughing was popular for a cult band.

70% of the new music I listen to is from cult bands (Ex: Lonely Forest, Zelos). The cookie cutter record industries are killing quality music.

  158. Hungarian Says:

I am never going to vote for Governor Poalin for president. I’d rather vote for a democrat.

  159. Todd Says:

We need a southerner to take back the states we lost.

    Gingrich 2012?
    By Robert Novak

In serious conversations among Republicans since their election debacle Tuesday, what name is mentioned most often as the Moses, or Reagan, who could lead them out of the wilderness before 40 years?

To the consternation of many Republicans, it is none other than Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House.

Gingrich is far from a unanimous or even a consensus choice to run for president in 2012, but there is a strong feeling in Republican ranks that he is the only leader of their party who has shown the skill and energy to attempt a comeback quickly.

Even one of his strongest supporters for president in 2012 admits it is a “very risky choice.” But Republicans are in a desperate mood after the fiasco of John McCain’s seemingly safe candidacy. Republicans appear chastened by the failure of seeking moderate, independent and even Democratic votes. They are ready to try going back to the “old-time religion.”

One Republican critic of Gingrich concedes that he has an “unlimited” energy flow and a constant stream of ideas, an important commodity in a party that appears to have run short of ideas during the Bush years. But there is widespread concern about what is described in the party as Gingrich’s deep “character flaws” that would be difficult to overcome in a presidential campaign. Nobody in Republican ranks, however, matches Gingrich’s dynamism.

The consternation among Republicans is concentrated on McCain’s failure to capitalize on Democratic flaws.

It would be a rocky road for Gingrich to the nomination, much less the presidency, but there are no other serious candidates inside the party at the moment.

What’s clear is that Republicans are unanimous in trying to avoid a repeat of what happened this year, and there is a surprising consensus that McCain was going in the wrong direction and was the wrong candidate.

What one GOP critic calls Gingrich’s “unlimited energy supply” must be overcome by anyone opposing him. Several old Republican hands feel that Gingrich in 2012 is no more outrageous than Ronald Reagan was in 1980.

What is certain is that Gingrich has the desire and the will. He has a deep-seated ambition. He had not even settled into the House speaker’s chair in 1995 when he confessed to me his presidential desires for 1996. That was not to be, but he never abandoned the personal dream and is ready to pursue it now.

If the economy’s still stumbling in 2012 Romney’s probably got a pretty good shot on the #2 spot. He’s a sharp guy (especially on the economy) and a “safe” choice (much like Biden was for Obama). The top spot is fuzzier. I’d guess a Southern governor.
