Ron Paul 2012: Do It For Your Health

Some people have not given up on the idea of a Ron Paul comeback. Doug Wead makes the case that at 76, going on 77, Ron Paul will be ready to run. Wead cites the example of Charles de Gaulle who served as President of France at 79. Of course, at the time of his last election De Gaulle was “only” 75.

Of course, after 20 years + in Congress, some people think he should be ready for retirement and that it’s well-deserved. Plus Paul would be able to spend his latter years with his family, which would be hindered should Paul make another White House bid.  Argues Wead:

That depends on whether they want to have him dead or alive. If he retires, his lifespan will shrink accordingly. If he has a vision, if he seeks the presidency, he will probably live longer. And what a romance, what an adventure, it would be, both as a couple and as a family.

Anyone who thinks running for President helps you live longer has never seen what those guys eat on the trail.  However, the appeal is perhaps the most unique I’ve ever read to a potential candidate. “Run, Ron, run because your life depends on it.”

  1. Danny Says:

I’m sure he’ll run in 2012. He will want to line the pockets of his family members serving as “advisers” with campaign contributions once again.

  2. Martha M Says:

When are we to expect an article on Romney? You’ve done Huckabee ad nauseum, Palin, Gingrich, Jindal, Bush, Petraeus, Pawlenty, Crist, etc. But no Romney. Are you having trouble finding something appropriate to say?

  3. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

Martha, are you going all knepper-style fatal attraction on Adam, babe?

  4. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

The Ron Paul worshipers, are the ‘clockwork orange’ movement of the republican party.

  5. Martha M Says:

Kristofer, the guy bugs the heck out of me. Have you seen his blog? He’s told us twice that Huck used his article for the book. (Not sure that’s a good thing.) I’ve read his stuff on Romney – all baloney. He can’t post anything about him because he knows he’s going to get blasted. I think he’s afraid. What a weasel.

  6. Greg Alterton Says:

    “Doug Wead makes the case”

I think Doug Wead is smoking weed.

  7. dennis reynolds Says:

ron paul is great. he stands for everything we should stand for. the way they treated him in the debates was unfair. yes, as a person he’s a little goofy, but he opposes the excess of bush / cheney in spending and foreign policy.

  8. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

Martha, even though huckabee would be last on my list, it would cool to have him quote me in his book, or speech for that matter. Give Adam a chance. He is not as anti-Romney as some others on this site.

  9. MatthewK Says:

I’ll give it a little time before I start calling Romney as under-represented. But you might start by taking things up with Jason.

  10. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#7, Dennis, I cannot tell if Dr. Paul was trying to run in the 1888 or 2008 election. Paul is a cross between a between an ancharist, a whig, Jim Jones and obey won kanobie.

  11. Martha M Says:

Kris, I think he is. Read his stuff on Romney. He needs the guts to come out and be real about it.

  12. Jamison Says:

    Kris, Adam isn’t as anti-Romney as Martha M is anti-those-who-don’t-mention-Romney. :D

  13. Martha M Says:

Nope, Jamison. I’m way more anti-Huck than pro-Romney. I would be happy with a number of other candidates. Just not Huck or Palin.

  14. Martha M Says:

I just want Adam to stop being afraid and tell us what he thinks of Romney. He seems to have more than enough to say on everyone else.

  15. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

    Two words:

    Gary. Johnson.

  16. cwpete Says:

Paul had more money & support from democrats than Republicans during the Republican primary. Many of his “supporters” were not even eligible to vote in their states Republican caucus.

How is that supposed to appeal to a guy like me? I think Kristopher’s statement about Paul supports being the ‘clockwork orange’ part of the party is both funny and true.

  17. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

15 Kavon, did you receive the same message as I did about goldwater Jr.?

  18. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

16, absolutely, Paul received the anti- war, pro-life democrat vote.

  19. Greg Alterton Says:

#15. One of the things many conservatives haven’t figured out is that the messenger is almost as important as the message. In looking for a new Reagan, we need someone who puts a smiling appealing face on conservatism, not someone who looks like he’s sucking lemons. If Gary Johnson is a good messenger, perhaps he will have more success conveying the message.

  20. wateredseeds Says:

    MathewK,

Oh please! Anyone that thinks Romney is under-represented on this site isn’t paying attention. Most of the front page posters are pro-romney in some form, and 60% of the total visitors of this site favor a romney presidency. That’s balogna to even start suggesting that romney is under-represented. The reason people aren’t posting as much about Romney is because Romney is a smart man. He wants to keep the buzz going, but lay low. His people work behind the scenes and don’t grandstand. It’s that simple. He’s beefing up for 2012, and that means playing smart football. Unlike some who their only chance is to take shots at others in the party, or to say something wacky every other day and get camera time, Romney has a huge advantage. No one needs to say boo about romney. As far as I’m concerned, the nomination is his to lose. Of course I’ve previously laid(sp) out how his nomination can be stopped by the huckster and others….but really if he can clean it up in the debates(he wasn’t the greatest, i don’t care what others on this site think…I watched every debate), if he can reassure the socons that rejected him this time, and that is a possibility, than romney won’t be stopped. It’s his to lose.

  21. Greg Alterton Says:

    It’s the hair.

  22. GetReal Says:

At least the name Gary Johnson will take longer for them to chant…

  23. dennis reynolds Says:

yeah ron paul represents crazy ideas like following the constitution, not spending a trillion dollars in iraq, not racking up the largest deficit in the history of the world. ron paul is speaking truth these days, while a lot of GOP is in denial. and he’s pro life in a way that secular people can understand.

  24. GetReal Says:

Also supports perfectly reasonable ideas like not listening in on calls to Al Queda operatives. After all, “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of privacy!”

  25. Jonathan Says:

    #23:

Ron Paul masks his insanity under the cloak of the Constitution, yet is silent when people like the Neo-Nazi Stormfront endorses him. Ron Paul is also a member of the military-cutting, terrorist appeasing, isolationist, head-in-the-sand Neville Chamberlain wing of foreign policy.

  26. dennis reynolds Says:

no one’s perfect. but he has a lot of good ideas, and got laughed at on stage by a bunch of people who didn’t realize the country wasn’t laughing with them.

  27. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

‘Gold standard’ now that is a sexy argument!!! LOL!

  28. dennis reynolds Says:

its all about sex appeal for you, kris. we already know that.

  29. Adam Graham Says:

    #15:

Yeah, Gary Johnson would make more sense. If it were Romney, Huckabee, and Johnson, I wouldn’t be at all shocked if Gary Johnson won the New Hampshire Primary.

  30. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#28, you “betcha” it is!!! LOL!

  31. MarkG Says:

The good doctor did enjoy the support of all types, including some super eggheads. But many of his demands were way out there and irreconcilable with what the federal government is today. Even if some of his ideas might have been desirable at face value, there was no conceivable way they could ever be made to happen.

His whole schtick of “rigid constitutionalism” would essentially have opposed every major political decision in the Republic since ratification of the Constitution, including such contentious actions as the Louisiana Purchase.

Ultimately, Ron Paul is opposed to any and all federal legislation enacted in the past 100 years because the Constitution does not specifically instruct elected officials to enact it. Just naming this approach to governance “constitutionalism” does not give it an actual definition.

Paul probably wouldn’t get as far running in 2012, but hey, if it helps his physical, if not mental, health, well…

  32. OHIO JOE Says:

It is not all about Sex-Appeal Dennis Reynold, Kristofer has put forth an opinion on a variety of issues. He has had a lot to say about various candidates other than Mrs. Palin. I do not agree with Kristofer on every issue, but at least he has had the courage to defend our VP candidate, unlike many.

  33. Illinoisguy Says:

wateredseeds – I agree with some of what you said, but let me counter a couple others. I think what Martha said about the site being underrepresented as far as front page postings is right on. Jason and MattC are pro Mitt, but unless I’m missing something no one else is. A couple more appear to be neutral, but all others are either non-complimentary or very pro-someone else or anti-Mitt. The problem is that Jason and MattC aren’t posting all that much compared to Adam Graham and Kristofer. If you would count the postings that were pro-Mitt versus pro-Huckabee or pro-Palin, Mitt would be far behind. Even Jindal is getting more pro postings, and at this point he would considered second tier for 2012.

You’re right about the commenters though. Mitt has lots of support in that area. In our last voting he had 56% of the responders putting him as their first place, while second place was Huckabee with about 13%. As I reviewed those results, several of them were converts from the 2008.
As far as the debates, I guess we’ll just have to disagree. Personally, I think Mitt won them all, while you obviously don’t agree. Have a great day!

  34. Illinoisguy Says:

Ohio, did I understand in your issue voting that you are pro gay marriage? That was a surprise to me., especially since you are Catholic, and what that will mean to the hospitals and clinics.

  35. Adam Says:

but at least he has had the courage to defend our VP candidate, unlike many.

Yeah. It’s not at all that Kristofer was a Palin booster from the start. Certainly that has nothing to do with it. He’s just defending Palin for the sake of party unity which is of course his utmost concern. /eyeroll

  36. Illinoisguy Says:

    oops, Ohio, sorry, wrong issue.

  37. Illinoisguy Says:

I should have said, “especially on what that would do to religions that refused to perform such ’so called marriages’.

  38. ihab Says:

Ron Paul is older than McCain.

  39. AuH20 Says:

I don’t think Paul will run. Paulites will probably get behind Gary Johnson, or maybe Mark Sanford, if Johnson doesn’t run. If neither of those win the nomination, my guess is an independent Jesse Ventura campaign for President could probably pick most of ‘em up.

Ron Paul doesn’t need a presidential campaign to keep him ticking. For being so old, he’s incredibly fit (heck, he is a physician).

  40. blakmira Says:

Ron Paul is in better shape physically and mentally than men AND women 10 years his junior.

There will always be those threatened by his pro-peace and anti-War on Drugs views, but for the generation growing up now, he is the wave of the future and the only hope to save our country.

How sad that buffoons and deluded imbeciles like Huckabee or Palin would even be considered candidates for president. Why not Paris Hilton? She’s just as clueless.

    Wake up, America.

  41. Jason Says:

Hell yes!. Ron is exactly what Obama isn’t, (A champion of the people!). I really got involved in politics in 1999, and I voted republican (don’t know why). I guess I was voting for the lesser of 2 evils, since I do consider myself conservative, but through the years I’ve realized that there’s not a dime a difference between the 2 parties. They both supported these horrendous bailouts, they both supported the war in iraq, they both support unconstitutional wars, nation building, bases around the globe, and a police state. Their philosophy on monetary policy is not much different, yea one says higher taxes, and the other says lower taxes, but both parties are pulling a fast one on all of us. They print money out of thin air to support all of these bailouts, so basically we’re broke. Did you all know that in order to keep up with every commitment we have at home and abroad, to sustain social security and medicare would require 70 consecutive year of double digit growth in our economy?. The game is gonna have to end sooner or later whether we like it or not. Ron Paul is exactly the guy we need in these trying times. First thing on his agenda would be to END THE FED RESERVE, ITS BEEN DONE BEFORE, AND IT CAN BE DONE AGAIN, WAKE UP PEOPLE!.

  42. DaveB Says:

Its humorous how many silly jabs people take at Ron Paul. Can’t really attack his character or his voting record. He practices what he preaches. He is a self made man who doesnt leech off the taxpayers. He honors the guiding principles of our Constitution and is always there to point out hypocrisy in our leaders policies.

People like to say the whole idea of abiding by the Constitution is old-fashioned and doesnt apply anymore. If thats the case, then why do our presidents, soldiers and judges swear to uphold a meaningless piece of paper? Since the Constituion did nothing more than establish a government with limited powers, by allowing it to become so oppressive we essentially now have self-imposed tyranny. We are all free people who have accepted our own enslavement. It was our responsibility to make sure our government honored the rules we set forth. Our oppressors have convinced us that these binding laws no longer apply much to their own benefit and at our expense. Most old people are not like Dr. Paul…they don’t have the energy to fight. Unlike all the Obama fans that are already losing enthusiasm for their rock star leader, Ron Paul republicans are here to stay. Long after the good doctor is gone his message will fight on.

    Freedom, Prosperity & Peace!

  43. ART DEKKO Says:

RON PAUL IS ONLY “GOOFY” TO CERTAIN TYPES OF OUR CRAP SOCIETY. HE WAS THE ONLY HONEST CANDIDATE AND HE WASN’T BLESSED BY THE NEW YORK JEWISH MEDIA.

HE MIGHT HAVE HAD SOME SMALL EFFECT ON THEIR COMPLETE CONTROL OF AMERICA.

THEY WERE SCARED SHITLESS OF HIS BEING ABLE TO RUN AND BE HEARD. SO THEY ASSASSINATED HIS CANDIDACY. JUT THAT SIMPLE….UNLESS YOU ARE BLIND, DEAF, DUMB AND OF COURSE “BORN YESTERDAY”.

The Candidates
