Some conservatives have been somewhat annoyed by McCain’s lackluster defense of Sarah Palin. In an interview with the Tucson Citizen, McCain goes much further than he has prior interviews:
Q; Sarah Palin went around telling people that Obama palled around with terrorists. Why weren’t you able to control what was coming out of her mouth?
A: First of all, he did. The second point is in political campaigns, sometimes there are very rough things said and done. And I resent enormously some of the things that were said about me.
And what I most resent was John Lewis, a man that I admired and respected and have written about, accusing me and Sarah Palin of being racist. And Sen. Obama refusing to repudiate that. John Lewis associated Gov. Palin and me with the bombing of a church in Birmingham. That’s not acceptable. And in the debate I asked and challenged Sen. Obama to repudiate those remarks by John Lewis and he wouldn’t.
So if you want to review all of the injuries and statements and comments that were made, I would be glad to do that. Overall, it was a very honorable campaign.
I am proud of Sarah Palin. I am proud of the way she ignited our party. I am proud of her family. I am proud of her reform agenda. I could not be more proud and happy with the selection of Sarah Palin.
But I resent enormously these allegations that Sarah Palin was, quote, unqualified and many of the other things that were said about her and that she was subjected to. It really was painful for me to observe that.
I really believe she will be a big factor in the future of our party.
I’m sorry about me being harsh about me controlling Sarah Palin, but it is a little bit of a sore subject with me when I don’t think she deserved some of the criticism she got from people who didn’t even know her or hadn’t had any contact with her.
And I think that she is a wonderful person and one that I appreciate and admire and have grown to respect more and more over time.

There’s a good boy Johnny. Do the work of the devil, and dance with the bimbo.

Obviously, McCain is not going to admit that he made a mistake in choosing her as his VP candidate, because that’s a reflection on his judgement. Nevertheless, he chose her, and we lost out butts. If we don’t learn from this, I guess we deserve to lose again. I try to be as honest as possible, and I can say without hesitation that Palin nor Huckabee will be electable in 2012. If we choose someone other than Mitt, that’s fine, but Huckabee has no appeal outside of the social conservative wing of the party, and Sarah simply is not ready.

Brad, if you’re going to talk like that, please don’t claim to be a Mitt supporter. Its obvious that it hurts Mitt when his supporters stoop to that level. I hope you’re a better man than that.

Thank you Illinoisguy for having to courage to stand for decency. It is certainly a feather in Mr. Romney’s hat to have people like you who refrain from trashing. I can accept the fact that Mrs. Palin is not everybody’s first second or even third choice, but she is no Bimbo.

Adam Graham,
This is no different than his previous comments about Palin. He’s still lukewarm and non-committal.

I lost a lot of respect for McCain when he did not come out right away after the election to defend Palin. He could have used examples of her governor experience to show how her executive experience would help her be a great president in 2012. He could have talked about how corrupt the government is and how Palin went after corruption in Alaska and how she would continue to do so as President in 2012. He could have talked about fiscal responsibility and how she balanced the budget, reduced taxes and did not need a bailout like some of the other governors out there.
But instead McCain kept saying how proud he was of her. That sounds like a dad or grandpa talking about his relative. He would never have said “proud” about Pawlenty or Ridge.
McCain blew the election by not having a message and he continues to blow it post election by not defending Palin in substantiative ways.
Glad he did not become president because I fear that he would already be caving into the democrats and we conservatives would be up in arms about who he chose for his cabinet.

Sarah got where she is today (Alaska Governor) on her own two feet fighting the entrenched GOP machine every step of the way. If this is the work of a “bimbo” then the GOP and the country need a whole lot more of of said “bimbos”.
As for John McCain, better late than never, I guess. However, reading what he said about Palin, I get the distinct impression that he is more concerned about defending his choice of Palin, than he is with defending Palin.
Granted, I have never much cared for John McCain, and that prejudice might be tainting my feelings about it, but I don’t think so. He still doesn’t take members of his staff to task for spreading rumors about her, for instance.

The Tucson Citizen….Is that one step up from the Pennysaver?
Oh, and Kavon, if you’re out there, it might be wise to take a hard look at the state of this website. Clearly it’s degenerated into “All Palin (And All Palin Bashing) All the Time.” Maybe when we get into the new year there will be something of substance to talk about again.
December 23rd, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Kavon, you might also consider bouncing Brad Hanson from this discussion board. He offers nothing positive or worth reading. His comments tend to be trite and hateful. If he’s ever posted anything thoughtful or positive, please point it out to me. His type are the ones who bring ruin to sites like this.

McCain knows that he will need Governor Palin to stump for him in Arizona in two years when he fights for reelection to the Senate. We will likely know who is the front runner for the 2012 nominee in 2010 based on which potential 2012 candidate gets the most requests to campaign for congressional and senate candidates.

On the other hand, if we allow these characters to continue to posts, they will show their foolishness and bring shame upon themselves.

Interesting thought. Why does McCain keep saying how proud he is of Palin?

Great, great answer!

Kavon:
I can’t understand why Brad is still here. Thanks for speaking up, Illinoisguy — that puts you one up on your friend Martha who defended calling Palin a bimbo in the past.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:13 pm
I kind of agree, but at times it’s been all-Mitt or Mitt-bashing, and sometimes there’s a bit of a Huck overload. At the present there isn’t much substantive going on, so trivial stuff gets overdone.
Alex: I agree — it was an excelent answer.

Palin is no bimbo in my book.
Getting oneself elected Governor and then (by most accounts) running a State pretty well isn’t “bimbo conduct”. She is young, relatively speaking, but has some excellent political strengths.
Neither is Palin the next Reagan or the next Margaret Thatcher… yet.
Who knows what she will become? Report on her strengths along with her weaknesses and you’ll hear no complaints from me.
December 23rd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Oh come on — lighten up, folks.
One definition of bimbo is someone who uses her sex appeal, which Palin surely does. I wouldn’t use the word and I don’t think she’s a bimbo, but let’s not get our shorts in a bunch. The other candidates have seen much worse.
I’m growing weary of all the Palin coddling and protecting. I know you fellas have a natural instinct to protect women, but Palin has entered the political arena where this sort of thing is common. I’m pretty sure she can take it, she’s a tough cookie.

#19,
Martha,
Manner please!
She ain’t no bimbo,
She doesn’t use her sex appeal or something like that, she is 40 already, how can she is using physical appearance for her career???
McCain chose her as VP at last race campaign, becuase she has shown firm and talented leadership as Alaska Governor.
She did prove successfull as Alaska Governor,
and she will prove, she is a potential candidate to be nominated in race2012 with Pawlenty, and Huntsman,
So please
Manner!
thanks for your attention and read my post.

And she continues to embarrass herself and the cause she associates herself with. A Rombot conspiracy theorist might conclude that she is a plant, deliberately undermining the sacred cause. Being neither a Rombot nor a conspiracy theorist, I’ll conclude that she is what she appears.

It’s possible to state honest truths as you see them without being uncharitable. I don’t support Sarah for president, but while unimpressed by her in some ways, I’m very impressed with her in others. I’m grateful to her for trying to make this a better country and our party a better party.
