Does Obama Have Some Sort of Hang-Up With Jews?

There’s a disturbing undercurrent in the ‘black community’ that is suspicious of other minorities, but one would think that a man like Barack Hussein Obama (we’re allowed to call him that now!), who is both highly educated and surrounds himself with those from different backgrounds, would avoid such a pitfall. It appears not, though. Once again, the spiritual mentor of the president has revealed something about Obama’s judgment: Reverend Jeremiah Wright says that “them Jews” aren’t going to allow him to speak with the president.

Al Sharpton, the man who has referred to Jewish people as “diamond merchants”  has, according to the Politico, emerged as an ally of Obama. Sharpton is notorious for having organied a rally in favor of “the black community” after blacks beat a Jewish man in Crown Heights, New York. “If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house,” Sharpton said. Why is this man receiving invitations to the White House alongside Michael Bloomberg and Newt Gingrich?

I have already documented the president’s hostility to Israel:

[I]t should now be utterly, blindingly apparent that President Obama is hostile to the cause of Israel. He subscribes to a completely ahistorical leftist narrative of Israeli history…With this sort of rhetorical appeasement, historical re-write, and moral equivalency, it’s no wonder that [a cabinet minister of] Mahmoud Abbas declared just the other day that America has finally has a president who is “sympathetic to the Arab cause.”

His ties to Palestinian radical Rashid Khalidi, a man who describes Hamas as a legitimate resistance organization, have been well-documented, as well. The Los Angeles Times reported in an article entitled “Allies of Palestinians see a friend in Obama“:

[Obama's] many talks with the Khalidis, Obama said, had been “consistent reminders to me of my own blind spots and my own biases. . . . It’s for that reason that I’m hoping that, for many years to come, we continue that conversation — a conversation that is necessary not just around Mona and Rashid’s dinner table,” but around “this entire world.”…

[T]he warm embrace Obama gave to Khalidi, and words like those at the professor’s going-away party, have left some Palestinian American leaders believing that Obama is more receptive to their viewpoint than he is willing to say.

Their belief is not drawn from Obama’s speeches or campaign literature, but from comments that some say Obama made in private and from his association with the Palestinian American community in his hometown of Chicago, including his presence at events where anger at Israeli and U.S. Middle East policy was freely expressed.

At Khalidi’s 2003 farewell party, for example, a young Palestinian American recited a poem accusing the Israeli government of terrorism in its treatment of Palestinians and sharply criticizing U.S. support of Israel. If Palestinians cannot secure their own land, she said, “then you will never see a day of peace.”

One speaker likened “Zionist settlers on the West Bank” to Osama bin Laden, saying both had been “blinded by ideology.”

And what of Louis Farrakhan? Obama’s church awarded Farrakhan, the man who called Judaism a “gutter religion” linked with the Third Reich, an award deeming him a symbol of national greatness.

Would a person who doesn’t have a hang-up with Jews hang around all of these lunatics?

This is quite the equivalent of someone spending time with David Duke or Katja Lane and then wildly proclaiming that he has no hang-ups with black people.

Actually, come to think of it, Jeremiah Wright and David Duke would probably get along when it comes to Them Jews.

Appointing Rahm Emanuel one’s chief-of-staff doesn’t erase a decades-long history of shady anti-Jewish associations. And while I suspect that Obama is not an anti-Semite, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have hang-ups when it comes to Jews — the mountains of associations are just too overwhelming.

“Does Obama Have Some Sort of Hang-Up With Jews?” It looks to me that the answer is yes.

  2. MWS Says:

In regard to Obama’s “black community” associations, I think those are pure opportunism. In regard to the Israeli/Palestinian question, I think he is far more pro-Palestinian than any President we’ve had in living memory. But I think those are two separate issues. So to the question, does Obama have a Jewish problem? I would say no, he hung out with anti-Semites when he needed street cred and votes, and he takes a fairly conventional liberal position on Israel.

  3. Flip Dixon Says:

Before people get too depressed about the GOP’s lack of leadership, POLITICO found a great article from USA Today that was published in August 2001 after Bush won:

But more than six months after a Republican president took over the White House, neither Gore nor Clinton nor anyone else has emerged as the clearly recognized leader of the opposition.’ But this is where it gets good. ‘Asked who is the leader of the Democratic Party, a 51% majority in a new USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll didn’t have an opinion. The next most frequent answer, at 10%: No one. …. “It’s the nature of being the party out of power,” says David Axelrod, a Democratic consultant based in Chicago.’

The headline of Susan’s 2001 story: “No clear leader of Dems, poll says.”

  4. plymouthrick Says:

If you have “hangups about Jews” than you are an anti-semite, period. I doubt that Obama has either. It seems to me that to begin to solve the problems in the Middle East we have to try not to view them through the prism of classical “anti-semitism”. i admit it would probably take a superhuman, or at least a better person than I to do this.

  5. Thomas Alan Says:

Well, anti-semitism is European approved racism, so Obama think’s he’s safe.

  6. Martha Says:

Yes, Obama has a problem with Jews. I believe it’s more than obvious. Emanuel and Axlerod were supposed to give Jews reassurance, but it turns out that both are driving his anti-Israel agenda.

  7. eric Says:

    6,

So do Axlerod and Emanuel have a problem with Jews? No.

Alex, are you asking if Obama has a personal problem with Jews? As in, he doesn’t like Jewish people? Or are you asking if he has an image/eloctoral problem with Jews because of his past associations and present take on Israel v Palestine?

I tend to agree with MWS in post #2. He hung out with anti-semites because that was politically helpful at that time. Should he have been taken to task by the MSM for this during the election? Yes. Does it matter now? I doubt it. And further, is his opinion on Isreal anything other than a normal liberal position? No.

  8. Robert M. Says:

#3 — It might be worth adding that the elections that followed went pretty badly for democrats.

This is great news because Obama won’t be able to pass his plan without support from stakeholders and it is now apparent he won’t get it from any of the stakeholders.

  15. Big S Says:

You’re stretching, Alex. What about all of his decades-long associations with Jews? All you have to do is take a look at a list of his former co-workers at the U of C law school to find a few, and we’ve never heard even a little bit of controversy about that kind of thing. What you’re talking about is Jews with a particular political philosophy, specifically regarding the Middle East. I could easily say “does Alex have a problem with black people?” based on the over-representation of that demographic among the people you cite to criticize Obama in this post. But that would be cherry-picking – the same thing you’re doing here.

  16. Benjamin Hodge Says:

  17. Alex Knepper Says:

Oh, really, Big S? Have I affiliated myself with racists? Can you direct me to some examples?

  18. Michael Bindner Says:

Considering that Rahm and David Axelrod basically control access to the
White House, and both are Jewish, it could hardly be said that Obama has
anything against the Tribe or the State of Israel.

The only way to get a more pro-Jewish Administration would be to elect
Wesley Clark (whose father is Jewish) or Joe Lieberman.
