#1 What kind of reputation does this polling firm have? Are they accurate?
#2 This appears to continue a trend of Dem incumbents facing steep declines in popularity, regardless of whether it’s a red, blue, or purple state. I like that trend.

EPIC indeed. Obama is in negative territory in Michigan?!

MI has been ground zero for the economic collapse and the 20 year trend of the hollowing out of America’s industrial center.
The chair of the Democratic party has proposed more taxes, an increase in the minimum wage, and increased unemployment benefits as the keys to getting Michigan working again!!!
BTW, I sat next to Pete Hoekstra about 6 years ago at a Kiwanis meeting here in Illinois when he was in town to campaign for the son of our retiring Congressman. Didn’t get much of an impression either way, but we chatted for a bit.

Hopefully Michigan voters will oust the democratic leaders who have brought that state into a dismal abyss.
Or will they be so depressed about the terrible job and housing losses that they just give up and say, It doesn’t matter who we vote for?

Seems to be a sizeable wave building even with Obama still around 50% nationally.

If these numbers are accurate, 2010 could be a devastating year for democrats.

Why does Michigan always seem to poll better for Republicans than what actually happens on Election Day?
I swear – Michigan is like the New Jersey of the Great Lakes. I am reminded of Dick Devos – and when he polled 8 points ahead of Granholm in the Fall of ‘06 – only to have his ass handed to him. I also remember how McCain polled well there for a while – only to see Obama win by 17 points on Election Day.
Obama is not upside down in Michigan unless he is CLEARLY upside down nationally.

Given the economic destruction that Granholm has perpetrated, the 33% of the electorate that approves of her job performance in Michigan must be holding out hope for the collapse of Western Civilization.

Devos was a terrible candidate (probably because he never was in a campaign before). Also, we have to pick a better candidate than Cox here in Michigan. Bouchard is ok and is racking up some impressive endorsements and Hoekstra is great but not was well known on the east side where the most people live. Hoekstra also runs the best internet 2.0 campaign. Either way, Cox is not conservative enough and must be defeated.

I read an article today that said the median home value is Detroit is $50,000.
Wow…..

“Well, since the Democrats have taken over the state, I’ve lost my job, my car, my house, the state is out of money, and taxes are going up. But my union says that Republicans hate working people and the elderly, and want them to die, huddled in cold, damp gutters while greedy, rich, white, CEOs get ten-figure bonuses from greedy, rich, white-run corporations…so I better vote for the Democrat again.”
October 21st, 2009 at 7:51 pm
I can attest to this – The Democrats here are indeed run into the ground. Cherry is not a particularly charismatic candidate, while Cox and the other Republicans are fairly well liked.
All this said – Republicans should start looking into how to rebuild our industrial sector, that could be a path to a permenant majority.
btw, if anyone here wants to do research for 2012 senate candidates, look up a guy named Paul Scott. He’s a MI state Senator from the Grand Blanc Area. A Young guy – but he might be a very appealing candidate to the GOP.

#12;
If Michigan went Republican, and they were successful in turning the State around, what would that mean for the surrounding States like Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana? Would those States also trend Republican?

Honestly, even if you’re a lifelong Democrat in MI, you’d think you’d have to look around you and think the Pubbies would be worth a shot. What, exactly, do you have to lose at this point? Clearly, the current regime has run it completely aground.

#15, you’re assuming they have the capability to think for themselves
