As McDonnell has surged to a lead in Virginia polls over his Democratic rival Creigh Deeds, national Republicans have described his campaign – in which he focused on job creation and downplayed his conservative positions on social issues – as a blueprint for future GOP victories. Asked what specifically in McDonnell’s approach represents a way forward for the party, Steele praised the Republican for focusing on issues relevant to middle-class voters while staying true to conservative economic principles.

If you were satisfied to vote in a president that hadn’t accomplished anything significant, then why would you be unsatisfied now?
October 29th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
It’s hard to believe that 19% of Americans are very satisfied with what Obama has accomplished to date. Let’s see, what exactly could those accomplishments be?
Running a $1.4 Trillion deficit. CHECK.
Deep-Sixing America’s Missile Defense System. CHECK.
Destroying the dollar as the international reserve currency. CHECK.
Running our unemployment number to 9.8%. CHECK.
One wonders what he would have to do to push that 19% number higher. A major tax increase, or turning Afghanistan over to the Taliban might just do it.

Question 9
Obama 48
McCain 41
McCain doesn’t seem to have any crossover support as evidenced by the fact that Obama is winning 88% of Democrats to McCain’s 7%.

I view Virginia as a referendum on the current administration. Obama’s popularity along with the economy continue to spiral downward in free fall. Confidence in the Republican brand is building and huge gains for the GOP are expected in 2010 and 2012. The tea party movement is leading national opinion.

JAPruce, I’m assuming that you don’t regard NY-23 & NJ Gov as a referendum?

Dave, #3 the list of accomplishments that people seem to like Obama for include:
- GDP rebound (which the WH has gone big on, as noted by the Fix)
- not being Bush
- taking time to decide what to do in Afghanistan
- not being Bush
- trying to fix healthcare
- not being Bush.
Their views coincide with the Nobel peace prize committee, who also awarded Obama for not being Bush.

#6,
I do. Hoffman and Christie will both win big as well. But in those races we have three- way contests so in addition to winning we can add the Independent and Republican votes to the total to truly appreciate how big of a wallop this promises to be.

I LOVE the answer to the last two questions! Fox wins!

#8,
You’re optimistic! I must confess that I expect Corzine to pull out NJ, and place as much significance on that as in VA (i.e. none – both are following historical trends: VA to go contrary to the WH, and NJ to somehow always pick the Dem). The NY-23 is the most interesting race, thanks to Hoffman.
